Farm Bill
While there has not been a new Farm Bill passed in Congress, all NCBA’ s Farm Bill priorities were included in the One Big Beautiful Bill.
Livestock Forage Disaster Program: The One Big Beautiful Bill increases to two monthly payments for the Livestock Forage Disaster Program and expands the program by allowing it to kick in after four consecutive weeks of drought, rather than the previous eight consecutive weeks.
Livestock Indemnity Program: The bill funds indemnity payments at 100 % of the market value for livestock losses due to predation and 75 % of market value for losses due to adverse weather. Additionally, there will be payments made for the loss of unborn livestock.
Additionally, there are multiple Voluntary Conservation Programs that are funded and are important to NCBA’ s mission. These programs include:
• $ 18.5 billion for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program
• $ 8.1 billion for the Conservation Stewardship Program
• $ 4.1 billion for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program
• $ 2.7 billion for the Regional Conservation Partnership Program
The bill also provides funding for animal disease prevention. This includes $ 153 million per year for the National Animal Vaccine and Veterinary Countermeasures Bank( NAVVCB), which houses the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine and test kits; $ 70 million for the National Animal Health Laboratory Network( NAHLN); and $ 10 million per year for the National Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Program( NADPRP).
The New Administration
President Trump has the ability to fill roughly 4,000 politically appointed positions in the U. S. government, including more than 1,300 requiring Senate confirmation. These political appointees carry out the day-to-day work of running federal agencies, and NCBA is pleased to see many of our allies receive Senate confirmation.
With the new administration, NCBA has built relationships, so we have a seat at the table for policy decisions. When President Trump held a press conference on the One Big Beautiful Bill, NCBA members joined him at the White House. As NCBA pushed for the One Big Beautiful Bill to pass, we also relied on the grassroots voice of our members. Several cattle producers around the country shared video testimonials on social media explaining why passing the bill was so important to them. These videos were shared on the White House’ s social media accounts and highlighted the efforts of NCBA members.
Earlier this year in an Oval Office event with President Trump and other cabinet leaders, Secretary Rollins called U. S. beef the“ crown jewel of American agriculture.” This type of support for the U. S. cattle industry from the Oval Office is historic and is a testament to the work NCBA does every day to educate policymakers on what our members do on theirs farms or ranches.
