LEADING THROUGH THE“ EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE” SEASON
Insights from John Sachse, RanchFIT Coaching, during his Cattlemen’ s College session at CattleCon 2026.
In my time as both a fourth-generation Kansas rancher and an officer in the Army National Guard, I’ ve noticed a striking similarity between the two worlds: neither one cares about your“ ideal” conditions. Whether it’ s a late-season blizzard during calving or a sudden change in mission parameters on a training exercise, life has a way of piling everything on all at once. During my recent session at Cattlemen’ s College at CattleCon 2026, I spoke with many people about what it feels like to be in an“ everything all at once” season. It’ s that point where the market volatility, the rising input costs, the equipment breakdowns, and the needs of your family all seem to hit the same wall at the same time.
In those moments, the weight can feel suffocating. But here is the perspective shift we discussed in Nashville: Heavy doesn’ t mean broken.
In the military, we don’ t give the heaviest rucksacks to the rookies who are just trying to find their way. We give the heavy loads to the scouts, the leaders, and the soldiers who have proven they can carry the mission forward. If your life feels heavy right now, it isn’ t a sign of failure; it’ s evidence that you are carrying things that actually matter. You are a steward of the land, a provider for your family, and a leader in your community. That weight is a badge of trust.
It’ s important for cattle producers to have tools to manage pressure during stressful seasons.
